minute and minute shouldn't be spelled the same. 🤧

Main Post:

I just learned that minute means a unit of time, equivalent to 60 seconds, and the other minute means something so small or insignificant.

How on earth do you write meeting minutes??

Main Post:

Hi everyone, just looking for advice and maybe commiserations. I keep getting lumped with the task of writing minutes for horrible long meetings at work that I find hard to pay attention to.

Hopefully I'm getting away from that task soon but just wondering if anyone has any useful advice?

I do record the meetings (with permission from the attendees!) but it's getting things down concisely that's difficult. How do you figure out what is essential and what can be cut out??

Just a Minute - How well can you mentally estimate a minute?

[Rant] People sending you an IM request that just says "Got a minute?", or worse yet, "Hey".

Main Post:

So I'm in the middle of working on our latest system build, putting together some automation scripts, and my IM pops up with "Got a sec?".

Now, not only did this pull me out of my thought zone, but after I answer back "What can I do for you?", I now have to sit there and wait for an answer. I can't really get back into what I was working on, as I know that I may get the next interruption in the next 30 seconds, or it may be 2 minutes, or it could be 5, you never know. It would be useless to re-load all the context of what I'm working on back in my head, just to have it fall out again.

How do you train people to actually state up front what their issue is, so I can start working on a resolution for them right away? And turning on Do not Disturb is sometimes overkill, because often times my assistance could be critical for something.

I've tried making suggestions, bringing this up in team meetings (often though the offender is someone on a sibling team). I've even expressed my frustration in the initial reply back, such as "I would, but you didn't tell me anything yet". Or, "Yes, you now have 45 seconds before I need to leave for my next meeting -- type quickly". Or, my favorite, is answer back "Sure", then either keep badgering them with "???" every few seconds, or sign out of my IM for a few minutes so they get an error message when their reply back to me doesn't go through.

Of course, I realize that the reason people do this is so they don't have to type out a bunch of things, if my answer back is "Can't help right now, will get back to you in an hour", but still they are wanting my time, so they need to take a risk on wasting a bit of theirs up front.

What's better? 1 minute of views on 2 min video or 2 mins on a 20 min video

Main Post:

I try to keep videos short to increase the percentage of people who will watch the whole thing. I'm wondering if it's more important to just increase the total watch time in hours and not focus on % of the video watched.

Top Comment: kinda unsatisfactory, but in a youtube creators video a few months ago they said it doesn't matter, just don't try to make the video artificially shorter or longer than it needs to be

The Two-Minute rule

Main Post:

If a task takes less than two minutes to complete, do it immediately instead of putting it off. This helps eliminate small distractions and create momentum throughout the day.

Top Comment: It takes me over 2 minutes to decide if a task takes more than 2 minutes, and therefore should be postponed
